Close To Croke Park
Close to Croke Park
A collection of stories and memories from the local community
Produced by The GAA Museum in partnership with Fighting Words
Launched in November 2021, Close to Croke Park is the culmination of a year-long project which began as part of the GAA Museum’s programme of events to mark the 100th anniversary of Bloody Sunday on 21st November 2020.
Over the course of a year, a group of residents from the local areas surrounding Croke Park have come together to discuss Bloody Sunday as well as their memories of the stadium. With the help of Fighting Words volunteers, their stories have been written down and brought to life in this new book.
The end result is a superb collection of short stories and poetry from lots of new writers and is an enjoyable read filled with local humour, history, and characters.
The cover artwork is by David Sweeney and is based on his painting Transilience, which was commissioned by the GAA Museum to commemorate the Bloody Sunday centenary.
